What's Your Fantasy?

Mine's Football. No I don't fantasize about playing football or being a football player or even some homoerotic dream of being with a football player (shiver). I love Fantasy Football. For years I have been playing Fantasy Football and what was originally mocked for being silly has become a multi million dollar industry that almost everyone plays. I mean everyone knows someone who plays fantasy football, men and women. While their reasons for playing may differ, the joy of playing is still there. Here are my Top 5 Reasons for playing Fantasy Football.

#5 - Every game means something.

Used to be you may love watching football but many just watched their home team or the marquee matchups. With fantasy football every game now has meaning. That Thursday night game with Detroit playing Cleveland? I got a running back in that game and I need the points. All of a sudden that game means something to me.

#4 - Women play too.

As I mentioned above, fantasy football has this unique ability to bring men and women together in liking football. How many guys have lost to a girl in their fantasy leagues? Yeah I thought so. Me too.

#3 - It's more fun.

It's great watching a game now and even though it's your team playing, one of your fantasy players is on the other team. You route for the player but not the team because you want to pad your stats. It's a catch 22 and it makes it a lot of fun.

#2 - It's Free.

While many leagues can be played with an entry fee and have year to year leagues where you keep your players, most are free. As in zero cost to get more enjoyment out of something you already love.

#1 - The players are aware of the game too.

I have seen multiple players in interviews, sound bites, etc. talk about their awareness of FB and their stats. One player last year went down early before the goal line to run out the time on the clock and preserve a win. After the game he mockingly apologized to the fantasy football owners out there who he cost a touchdown. The self awareness is awesome and sometimes really funny.

Got Glue? GetGlue!

Well it's been more than a little while since the last time I blogged here. I feel like I have been cheating on my blog by updating Twitter, blogging for the SD Fair, and generally just not having anything interesting to say. I plan to change that today. I have been applying for a ton of Social Media jobs and claiming my blog as an asset, time to make use of it once again.

While reading Mashable early last week I came across an article discussing websites and APPS for Social Media Check-Ins for when you are watching a movie or tv show, or playing a game, or reading a book, or listening to your favorite music. The website that really stood out to me through use is GetGlue. GetGlue is a website and iPhone/iPad app that lets you Check-In while doing one of the activities I listed above. Not only that you can "Like" or "Favorite" all those same things and earn Stickers or Badges for being a fan. How awesome is that! I have quickly become obsessed with earning cool stickers and discovering how to earn rare stickers by liking or checking in to certain items. Check it out for yourself at www.getglue.com. I have so far earned 30 stickers in just under a week. Here is a quick way you can earn 5 stickers for yourself.

#5 This sticker from Clash of the Titans (2010) can be earned by simply Checking In while watching the DVD of this movie.

#4 Fan of Entourage on HBO? Watch an episode and Check In to earn this badge. There are more badges for watching this show, I will leave those to you to discover.

#3 The sticker that set off my explosive obsession. I checked in while watching Scott Pilgrim on Friday and was surprised to earn this sticker. So cool!

#2 I earned this for watching the Season premiere of Weeds on Showtime. There are more badges for watching this show, I will leave those to you to discover.

#1 How cool is this? The fist-bump. Find yourself with another friend also on GetGlue? Head to their page and find 10 things they like that you also like, and you will earn this cool badge for both of you. How awesome is that?!

That's it for now. Check out the website for yourself and start earning some cool stickers. If you earn 7 they will even mail them out to you for free! I will be back later in the week on earning badges and stickers for Yelp, Foursquare, and Miso.

Really? Two months?

Has it really been two months since I last blogged? It's not like I have been horribly busy or anything. Well maybe I have. My last blog post was about starting full time work again and to be honest a 40 hour work week takes a lot out of you if you are not used to it. Add tough classes at school on top of that, starting back at the gym, and trying to jump start my social life, I guess I have been busy. Well I am home sick today with the flu and trying to entertain myself, so the blog gets dusted off and brought back into the light of day.

It's so weird typing more than 140 characters at a time, I have gotten so used to Twitter that I condense my thoughts into smaller sentences now. What does that say about me? And why does this feel like a diary entry and not a blog? Bah! That's enough for now, I promise to come back and start blogging more. I have a lot of things in the works I want to get to and not enough time in the week to get to them.

Back in the saddle again

It's been a few weeks since I last blogged. After my photo-a-day experiment derailed I sort of lost steam for a few weeks. That and I picked up Borderlands from GameFly shortly followed by Mass Effect 2 coming out. Amazing how two great video games can absorb your attention sometimes. This last week though, I was back working in an office for the first time in 6 months. 6 MONTHS?! Yeah the last full time job I had was last July working for the San Diego County Fair. Well I am back working for the Fair once again and glad to be a part of a great team. I really hope that this coming Jul/Aug I will be able to find that job that helps me take that next step in my career, but in the meantime I am going to keep striving to push the envelope in Entertainment and Competitions for the San Diego Fair. Hey, I'm good at it.

Conan says goodbye to the Tonight Show

Conan O'Brien is one of the classiest people on television. His goodbye on the Tonight Show is really quite inspiring. I love his last words. Enjoy. Click Here to view the Video. Thanks to the Huffington Post for the original article.

2010 Photo-A-Day: Day 16

I guess it's official. My photo-a-day experiment has completely derailed. I still want to keep taking pictures, but for a couple of days pics were not turning out (bad lighting with a bad camera) or I was actually not leaving the house. I took this on Friday when I went to lunch with my buddy Tyler at Islands in Mira Mesa.

2010 Photo-A-Day: Day Eleven

Day Eleven of the Photo-A-Day, and I missed another day. Oh well. Today I played around with my thumbnail camera and took a ton of pictures while I was out and about looking for lunch. Strangely I found I really liked this little picture I took out in front of my house when I got home. It's that weird sensation that you can travel the world looking for what you want, only to return home and realize you always had it.

2010 Photo-A-Day: Day Nine

The 2010 Photo-A-Day experiment continues. I skipped the 7th and 8th because I did not see anything to take photos of, and because I forgot my camera. Today's picture is the sunset from my front porch. The rest of the country can suck it.

2010 Photo-A-Day: Day Six

The 2010 Photo-a-day experiment continues, and to be fair, I already missed a day. In case you were not paying attention, obviously I wasn't, I missed yesterday the 5th. Shrug. Today's picture is of the San Diego Downtown skyline from the land side. Most of the time you see majestic pictures from the water side of the skyline. But I know a spot near my house that affords me a gorgeous site and a great place to read a book.

2010 Photo-A-Day: Day Four

Okay so today's picture is kind of interesting. I took the thumb camera with me to run errands today and tried to snap shots of interesting things I saw while I was driving. The photos came out pretty good considering but not a lot of them took. I guess moving made the camera not take pictures. This is the one I liked best because I was trying to take a picture of the Kensington 100 Years sign over by Ponce's Mexican Restaurant in Kensington. I ended up almost missing the sign completely and taking a picture of the freeway sign. You can still just barely see the Ken sign on the right hand side of the picture.

2010 Photo-A-Day: Day Three

After a long day of helping Matt and his Dad work on the garage, cleaning the kitchen, and then watching the Chargers beat the Redskins, I sat back and enjoyed a couple of beers and played some Xbox 360.

2010 Photo-A-Day: Day Two

Day 2 of the Photo-a-day experiment. I felt like shit for most of the day today, mixture of too much drinking and trying to get back into shape. It's really amazing how fast it goes when you let yourself be lazy for a long time. Went for a walk yesterday and helped dig up a trench the other day, and I felt 20 years older then I really am. Only cure for that is to keep being active again. Part of the reason I was digging a trench was helping Matt and his Dad retrofit our garage into more a room so that Matt can have an office that is not 2 degrees away from freezing and has it's own power run out there. This picture is Matt and Jack putting in a ceiling on the garage at the Arnold House. Men at Work.

2010 Photo-A-Day: Day One

Welcome to a new experiment I am trying. First of all shout out to my friend Shea for this idea. Last year Shea started taking pictures of himself on New Years and continued for weeks. He was experimenting with taking a photo a day. Then later in the year my buddy Hula started doing the same thing, but not pictures of himself, just a picture a day. So here is the first day of my 2010 exploration/journey and Photo-A-Day. These may be photos of me, places I am at, things I like, but they will all be photos taken by me. I may miss a day of uploading or blogging, but this will be the place I post the photos and at the end of 2010 on 12/31/2010 I will be posting a massive photo montage through Flickr or something. Maybe I will do retrospectives for each month. Should be fun. To kick off 2010 I went for a walk this morning and took a shot of my neighborhood. This is on the corner of Hamilton St. and Myrtle Ave. behind my house.
